Earthquakes are one of the worst natural disasters that can happen. They are measured by using the richter scale. 0 on the richter is not an earthquake and 10 is city destroying. The highest reading ever recorded on the richters scale was a staggering 9.5 in Chile in 1960. This earthquake was a tectonic quake (you will learn more about these later). The plate that caused this terrible earthquakes was the Nazca plate.
